Alan is a tax partner in the firm since May 2006 having joined O’Neill Foley in December 1999. Alan previously worked as a tax manager with KPMG Dublin. Alan specialises in providing tax advice for family transfers and inheritances, disposals and acquisitions of property and businesses, dealing with Revenue audits and resolving complex taxation matters for clients. He has also been involved in negotiating and project managing disposals and acquisitions of businesses for clients along with identifying and procuring prospective purchasers.
Specialisms 

Using technical knowledge and experience gained over many years, Alan is recognised as being a leading tax expert who provides qualitative and robust tax advice that meets the needs of clients. Alan is extremely proficient at resolving complex taxation matters and brings a wealth of commercial experience for the benefit of clients. Areas of expertise include gift tax/inheritance tax, Capital Gains Tax, VAT and stamp duty.  Alan has excellent relationships with legal firms in the region.

Accomplishments 

Alan has resolved many complex Revenue audits for clients and has won a number of tax cases with the Appeals Commissioners involving complex tax matters.

Alan has also been instrumental in bringing innovative tax and commercial solutions to resolve complex commercial transactions/disputes.

Alan has made a number of white paper submissions to the Department of Finance in relation to tax policy matters.  He is also a regular contributor on KCLR for taxation and economic matters.

Alan is a Member of the Institute of Tax, Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants

Education 

Alan attended Presentation College, Bray and DIT College of Commerce. He holds a B.Sc (Mgmt) degree as well as his FCCA and AITI qualifications.

Interesting Fact 

Alan likes travelling, enjoys gardening and plays golf to a handicap of around 12. He is also Chairperson of the Board of Management for his local school.
